Dragonfly Maze, Bourton-on-the-Water
Summary:Don't be fooled into thinking this is just another maze. Designed by Kit Williams, the Dragonfly Maze has a Rebus puzzle that you must try to solve as you find your way to the centre and to the secret hiding place of the golden dragonfly.
Opened in 1997, the Dragonfly Maze is a traditional yew hedge maze with a difference. It is all about finding your way to the centre of the maze to discover the golden dragonfly.
The Dragonfly Maze was created by Kit Williams, who first came to the public's attention when his book "Masquerade" was published in 1979. Packed with a host of riddles, visual clues and cryptic instructions, it challenged the reader to discover a "golden hare" buried somewhere in the English Countryside.
Kit used gold and semi-precious stones left over from his original golden hare to make the golden dragonfly.
The Dragonfly Maze is more tricky than it looks and visitors should allow themselves 20-30 minutes to complete it.
Afterwards they are invited to take a look in the shop “Amaze n things”, full of traditional toys, puzzles and gifts.
The Dragonfly Maze is open from 10.30am with last entry at 4.30pm. In the winter opening times vary according to the weather and light levels.
