Residents warned to prepare for flooding

Residents in Siddington are being warned to prepare for flooding as the River Churn has risen following heavy rainfall overnight.
Those in Cirencester, South Cerney and Cerney Wick also continue to be on high alert with flood warnings issued.

“We have been out visiting residents and will continue to do what we can to help.”
Councillor Andrew Doherty, Cabinet member for Environment, added: “Despite a dry day ahead river levels are continuing to rise so we are likely to see conditions worsen over the next 48 hours.
“We are deploying sandbags where we can make a practical difference to try and avoid property flooding. However, we would urge residents who are at risk of flooding to take action and move furniture and other items upstairs or onto raised surfaces if they are able to.”
The Council is also warning residents to take great care and avoid going near fast flowing rivers or walking through floodwater where there may be unseen hazards, such as missing manhole covers.
