There is a permanent exhibition downstairs with exhibits showing various facets of the life and times of the area, from prehistory and early settlement, the transition to a market town in medieval times, through the development of the blanket industry, the two world wars and the growth of the modern town.

There is also a changing programme of exhibitions by local artists and craft workers upstairs in the Bartlett-Taylor Gallery, interspersed with historical displays of local interest.

The museum is open from March to October six days a week (closed Mondays).
